Hot Chocolate in a Jar Makes a Great Gift

Gourmet Hot Chocolate in a Jar is a simple but elegant gift that anyone can make. There are many variations, but the one pictured here is Christmas Hot Chocolate. For the basic hot chocolate mix recipe simply omit the candy canes. Here is where you can add some variety. What about crushed chocolate toffee bars, or candied ginger or orange rind. Experiment and have fun.

For this project, I have chosen an empty three and a half cup olive jar, but mason jars or any other type work equally well. Carefully layer these ingredients:

1 cup cocoa powder

1 cup powdered milk

1 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup chocolate chips

2 broken candy canes

Tie up with a pretty bow, and a candy cane and Voila! it's that simple. You can include these handwritten instructions: Mix contents together. Add 3 heaping tablespoons to 1 cup of boiling water and stir. Or you can download the following instruction sheet with matching gift tag
