Chocolate Spoons

chocolate spoons wrapped as a gift

Chocolate spoons are a delightful little gift and very easy to make. Pictured above left are spoons with milk chocolate, white chocolate with candy cane sprinkles, and dark chocolate. On the right, you see them all dressed up and ready to be given as a gift! These spoons make great hostess gifts, basket and stocking stuffers, or even wedding favours. The spoons can be plain or brightly coloured plastic or for a fancier touch, you can use stainless steel or silver rummaged from a yard sale or your attic! However you choose to do it, the process is the same and very very simple.

Instructions

You can use a good quality chocolate, bakers chocolate, or even your favourite chocolate bar.

Step 1. Melting the chocolate

Break chocolate into pieces and put into the top of a double boiler. If you don't have a double boiler, you can use a glass bowl or measuring cup and sit it in a simmering pot of water on the stove (just take care not to let the water bubble into the chocolate) Stir until melted.

Step 2. Dipping the spoons

This is the fun part. Dip the spoon into the melted chocolate and swirl around to coat both the front and back. Hold it out of the hot chocolate for a few seconds and dip it again. Repeat this process until the spoon is completely covered.

Step 3. Adding the sprinkles and drying the spoons

Place carefully on the sheet of waxed paper to dry. If you are going to add sprinkles, now is the time to do that. Crushed candy canes, toffee bits, nuts or candies all work equally as well. Let your imagination go wild!

Step 4. Wrapping your chocolate spoons

You can use coloured tissue, cellophane wrap or even fabric. I like the look and feel of cellophane. It has a crisp, festive sound and the chocolate peeks out from underneath, tantalizing and teasing the recipient. Cut a square approximately 8". Put your spoon on the diagonal with the handle pointing to one of the corners. Gather up the cellopane and secure with a fanciful ribbon.

Step 5. Give with pride!

That's it. That's all there is to it. And it is sure to put a smile on the gift recipients face. Just be sure to make a few extra for yourself and indulge with a steamy mug of coffee or hot chocolate!

Nothing is better than a friend unless its a friend with chocolate
