Candy Cane Hot Chocolate

This recipe for candy cane hot chocolate is the perfect hot drink to enjoy after a long day of Christmas shopping, skiing or just to get into a holiday spirit!

candy cane hot chocolate in red mug
1/4 cup cocoa

1/8 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract

1 peppermint candy cane crushed

2 cups of whole milk

Warm the milk on medium low heat being careful not to burn. Mix the sugar and cocoa with a just enough milk to make a paste. Add the paste to the warm milk and continue to stir until hot. Add the peppermint extract. Top with fresh whipped cream and sprinkle with crushed candy cane.

Cuddle up with a loved one, pop "It's a Wonderful Life" into the dvd player, sit back and enjoy!

To make you feel really special...

For an extra special touch, rim your favorite Christmas mug with melted white chocolate and then dip into crushed candy cane and let set. Pour in the heated hot chocolate and garnish with a candy cane to stir.

You don't have to blow your diet!

Believe it or not, this hot chocolate can also be made in a low fat or low carb hot chocolate version! Just skip the whipped cream, use skim milk instead of whole and replace sugar with splenda. There are even sugar free candy canes on the market. To get a decadent frothy top you can froth warm skim milk with a Milk Frother. You'll never believe that you managed to stay on your diet!!!

I'd give up chocolate but I'm no quitter
